ADMINISTRATION

 

Barbria Bacon, Director
Governor Morehead School


Mrs. Bacon brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience working with the blind community. She was most recently the Director of Education Services, with responsibility for the Blind, Deaf and Multi-handicapped Schools, Special Education, Career Technology Education and Post Secondary Education at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind. Her experience includes working for 19 years at the Maryland School for the Blind, serving as a team leader, assistant principal, and principal. In 1999, she was recruited as a school principal at the South Carolina School.

She received her BS degree from Morgan State University in Education/Special Education and her MS degree from Johns Hopkins University in Administration and Supervision. She also attended the Penn School of Optometry.

 

Kelly Davis, Director
Preschool


Kelly Davis has been with the Governor Morehead Preschool since 1987. She served as the educational diagnostician from 1987 until 1991. In November of 1991, she assumed the director's role within the preschool. She is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill.

 

Nancy C. Doherty, Director
Student Life Program


Nancy C. Doherty has been student life director at the Governor Morehead School since January 2000. She earned her master's degree from North Carolina State University. Nancy has held government positions at the NC Dept. of Health and Human Services, the NC Dept. of Public Instruction and the NC Dept. of Community Colleges working in the human service fields since 1986. She was the founder of the Wake County Families Children and Adolescent Network, a non-profit organization that provides support for parents whose children are mentally or emotionally ill. She was a teacher in Pennsylvania before coming to North Carolina.

 

Kathy Davis
Interim Principal and OutReach Director


Kathy Davis has a master's degree in sociology and school administration from North Carolina State University.  She has a background in teaching technology and students with visual impairments in both North Carolina and Arizona.  She assumed the leadership of GMS Outreach services in August 2003.
