Recreation Services offers a diverse choice of leisure and recreational activities, which nurtures personal development and social interaction. The activities are planned for pleasure and as creative outlets for the students. Students have opportunities to interact with others and to learn the value of service to the school and the community. As the students become more confident in leisure and recreational activities, they develop their leadership skills, build their self-esteem and increase their abilities to work together cooperatively.
Recreation Services offers outdoor activities, off campus events, fitness activities, community trips, educational activities, and general leisure skill development. A schedule of activities is written and disseminated weekly. Some of the activities students may choose to participate in are: Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, reading club, school prom, talent shows, fashion shows, arts and crafts, field trips (NC State Fair, Memorial Auditorium and Raleigh Little Theatre, Carolina Hurricane ice hockey game, Durham Bulls baseball game, Mudcats baseball game, high school plays), board games, pool, air hockey, goal ball games, fishing, basketball, track, cook outs and picnics, outdoor educational programs (NC Museum of Natural Science), community activities (Adventure Landing and Bullwinkles for arcade games, miniature golf, roller skating, movie theatres, bowling, shopping, dinner trips) and seasonal parties.
