The GMS community provides all students quality education and inspiration for individual success.
VISION
The Governor Morehead School is to become an exemplary school and resource center known for excellence in the field of educating students with visual impairments. The school will advocate the ideals expressed in the National Agenda for the Education of Visually Impaired Youth and will initiate, implement and support these broadly approved educational principles for all North Carolina students with visual impairments from birth through age 21, their parents and the professionals who serve them.
FOCUS
This repositioned state school for the blind will provide the right resource for the right student at the right time by:
- Educating the total student through service delivery models including preschool satellites for birth-age five(5), public school settings, long and short-term on-campus placements and K-12 residential and day placements
- Utilizing modern distance education classroom and state-of-the-art, vision specific technology
- Serving as a readily available child advocate to parents and professionals
- Partnering with North Carolina Central University to improve the professional development center in providing qualified professionals in the vision field
- Providing scholars a setting for research in the field of visual impairment education
