Director's Message

Governor Morehead School welcomes a new calendar year of instruction and engaging activities as we quickly move into 2024. We officially launched our strategic plan in January of 2023 which is a guiding path leading to transformation at our school. We invite students, parents, and community supporters alike to view it and become engaged in assisting our school transform and enhance how we serve visually impaired students of North Carolina.

As we return from the Holiday Break, it will be vitally important to ensure all students return to consistent, engaging instruction as our students will only be a few short weeks away from the end of the academic quarter or semester. We are excited that out new admissions process is in place. Students and parents can now connect and reach out to our enrollment coordinator about how to start the application process. Our continued focus on literacy and personalized learning opportunities for our students is paramount. As we continue to instruct students who would benefit from braille instruction, we strive to support and teach our students to use current technological advances that support their overall growth in academics, social-emotional skills, and orientation-mobility skills. One of our core objectives is to improve post-secondary outcomes for students with visual impairments so they are better prepared for success in the workforce and in higher institutions of learning.

We are also looking forward to the completion of several operational projects that will enhance how students are served. We are in the final stages of refreshing our cafeteria and media center just to name a few.
