2019-2020 Short-Term Sessions

We are excited to offer eight short-term sessions this year for students (K-12) with visual impairments from all across North Carolina. Students will receive tailored, intensive instruction in the Expanded Core Curriculum (Orientation and Mobility, Assistive Technology, Compensatory Skills, Independent Living Skills, Recreation & Leisure, Visual Efficiency, Career Education, Self-Determination, and Social Interaction Skills). These are skills critical for students with visual impairments due to their unique disability-specific needs. Each session is 5 days. Attached is the application form.

Welcome Back, Chargers! If you still need to register, contact Shonny Williams at (984) 292-3033 or shonika.williams@esdb.dpi.nc.gov and make arrangements. Safety is very important to GMS; therefore, no student will be admitted without coordinating with Shonny. This will ensure the school has all updated information including contacts, medical needs, and prescriptions. We appreciate your cooperation!

GMS Welcomes New Principal

GMS welcomes Mr. Matthew Mescall as our new principal. Mr. Mescall comes from the Maryland School for the Blind where he served as a teacher, Athletic Director, Coordinator of Outreach Programs and Special Projects. He brings a knowledge of residential schools for the blind as well as outreach to public schools in the community through IEP’s, professional development, camps, and summer programs.
